2019 GEfIL Global Leader Lecture and Workshop 2020.03.27 (Fri) - 2020.03.30 (Mon)
The Global Leader Lecture and Workshop for GEfIL dai 4 kisei was conducted as an intensive online program over four days. Original plans of hosting it at the UTokyo Yamanaka Lodge had to be abandoned due to the spread of COVID-19.
The theme of the workshop this year was “Value Creation through Diversity and Inclusion.” The keynote speech was given by Ms. Ursula Schwarzenbart, Head of Talent Development and Global Diversity Office at Daimler AG, who spoke about diversity and inclusion (D&I) from a business perspective. The hour-long discussion went by quickly as students asked questions ranging from strategies to ensure D&I within the corporation to the challenges of executing D&I in various parts of the world as a multinational company.
On the 2nd and 3rd day, the students learned to use design thinking skills. Ms. Hiromi Hara from SAP Japan offered valuable instruction and students then
applied these skills in teams, working on value creation through D&I on issues ranging from disaster preparedness measures targeting elderly citizens to inclusive political representation.
Twelve PHASE2 students were part of the steering committee. They designed the 10 topics and facilitated their group work. The fruit of their labor was enjoyed on the final day with a 15-minute presentation by each group project on which the expert mentors commented and questioned.
