Selection

Full-time undergraduate Year 2 students (non-PEAK) and Year 1 PEAK students are eligible to apply for GLP-GEfIL, provided they meet the required qualifications listed on the 'Selection Criteria' page. 

Up to 100 students will be selected to participate in GLP-GEfIL program.

Yes, you can. The schedule for application and selection will be the same as that for non-PEAK students. Therefore, PEAK students submit their application between June and August of Year 1, and are selected in November of Year 2. PEAK students will join the GLP-GEfIL program from Entrance Ceremony and Orientation conducted in December. Please make sure that you fulfil all the requirements of your PEAK degree program, since there will be NO special treatment given to PEAK students when you are a GLP-GEfIL student.

Yes. Provided you are a full-time undergraduate student at UTokyo, you are eligible to apply. 

No, they are not. There is no automatic admission process and/or priority concept. 

No, we only accept TOEFL iBT and IELTS as valid certification. Other tests, such as TOEIC, EIGO KENTEI and TOEFL ITP are not accepted.

No, you do not need it in order to apply for GLP-GEfIL. TOEFL or IELTS test results older than 2 years will still be accepted. However, you will be required to re-sit your TOEFL iBT or IELTS test when you apply for GEfIL abroad programs next year.

Yes, if your score is slightly below the required level, you can still apply and may be invited for an interview. You will be required, however, to make continuous efforts to improve your English competence. 

No, you do not. A copy of the certificate you already have and/or a print-out from the website will do.

Students who have received an English-medium education for at least 4 years of the first 6 years of education and at least 5 years of the next 6 years of education are exempt from submitting English proficiency test scores.

Yes, you can, provided that you will complete GLP Designated Courses worth 6 credits or more from at least two out of three categories during A semester in the application year. 

No, you do not. Please just make sure that you have completed 6 credits or more from AT LEAST TWO out of three categories. 

Yes, you can apply for GLP-GEfIL, even if your senior division faculty/department has not yet been confirmed. However, in order to be invited for the GEfIL selection interview, we require the decision about your senior division faculty/department. 

No, there is not. All majors, PEAK students and foreign students are treated equally.

The interview will be about 20 minutes long and conducted in English. 

The screening process will be based on the following criteria: (1) Demonstrated strong motivation to act as future innovator and team-leader on the global stage (2) High level of English competence (TOEFL iBT score of min. 100 or IELTS of 7.0 , as the entire GEfIL program is conducted in English. However, students with a score slightly below the above requirement will also be considered for admission and their English proficiency will be evaluated comprehensively through the application documents and the interview.) (3) The following points will also be considered: • Good academic performance in first year/s (transcript of academic record) • Ability and commitment to undertake GLP-GEfIL program alongside the requirements of your major

Not necessarily. You can also take GLP designated courses in the Autumn semester of the year of your application. However, it is desirable that you have earned at least 4 credits before you submit your application.
