GLP-GEfIL
“GEfIL PHASE1 Final Presentation” was held on June 1st (Sat.)

On June 1st (Sat.), the “GEfIL INDEPENDENT RESEARCH PROJECT PHASE 1 Final Presentation” by the 9th cohort of GLP-GEfIL students was held at the HASEKO-KUMA HALL on the Hongo Campus. The event was attended by approximately 70 members, including 50 students enrolled in the program, and 20 GLP Mentors and Teaching Assistants.
This final presentation marked the culmination of approximately six months of activities. The 9th cohort, who began their curriculum last December, conducted research on real-world issues, making intermediate and final presentations, and learning through the process.
The students were divided into 14 teams, each setting their own tasks based on their interests and concerns related to the 17 international goals of the SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals, and devising approaches to their resolution.
The themes tackled by the 9th cohort are as follows:
- Easy Japanese
- UTokyo Nature Quest: A Visual Journey through Campus Ecosystems
- Fostering Participation of Women in Society: Insights from Japan’s
Legislative Approaches - Inclusive Education: Making it the Norm for Every Family with Children
with Disabilities - Conceptualizing Energy-Oriented Urban Structure in the Context of Shrinking Cities
- AI for Japanese Learning
- Empower the people in action
- Bridging the Gap between International Students and Local Students
- Food loss in Todai Seikyo
- Striving for Inclusivity: Examining Gender Imbalance at UTokyo
- Children poverty in Tokyo
- Wooden city
- A solution for mental problems among young people during the pandemic
- Rethinking Kitasenju Station: Congestion Mitigation
Working collaboratively within their teams, the students fully expressed the results of their learning over the past six months within a 10-minute presentation. After the presentations, it was impressive to see each team reflecting on their activities with a sense of reluctance to part, alongside their Mentors and Teaching Assistants who had guided them.
This summer, many of the 9th cohort students are scheduled to participate in the GEfIL Abroad Program for the first time, to further deepen their experience and learning. At the “GEfIL Abroad Reporting Session” scheduled in September, we look forward to seeing the 9th cohort students who have gained valuable experiences and learning that are hard to come by in Japan.
